The Luzerne Foundation has officially launched the Operation Headstrong Fund, a charitable initiative dedicated to encouraging healthy habits, physical activity, and positive mindsets for children and families.
Founded by Gerard Durling, creator of fitness puppet Coach Brick Headstrong and Chief Creative Officer of Coal Creative, Operation Headstrong will fund innovative projects that combine education, entertainment, and wellness to inspire kids to move their bodies and embrace healthier lifestyles.
The fund’s first project is the development of a new activity book designed for children in grades K–5. The book will blend fitness basics with fun illustrations, positive mindset prompts, and creative learning activities to encourage movement, self-confidence, and healthy daily routines.
“I like to think of it as a child’s first workout book,” said Durling. “It’s a way for kids to build positive habits early, making fitness feel fun, approachable, and something they can share with their families.”
As part of the fund’s mission, these activity books will be distributed at no cost to schools, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to benefit regardless of background or resources.
